The nOrh 4.0 is the loudspeaker that put nOrh on the map. Our first nOrh 4.0s were carved from logs. While these early 4.0s were warmly received--even getting a very favorable review in Absolute Sound, the ceramic and marble nOrh 4.0s have set the bar for just how good an inexpensive loudspeaker can sound. Each ceramic and marble nOrh 4.0 is a work of art. They are hand made and look absolutely beautiful. Some people claim that the nOrh 4.0s are among the best home theater loudspeakers available. Nobody can argue that they are clearly one of the best values.

Combined with a quality subwoofer, the nOrh 4.0s can provide a level of performance of some of the more expensive systems sold today. The 4.0 has amazing dynamic range and images better than speakers costing many times more.

While the sound of the nOrh 4.0 is clearly high-end, the price is still in the range of budget loudspeakers. Yet the nOrh 4.0s are designed for lasting beauty. The finish on both the marbles and ceramics will stay fresh and vibrant for a lifetime or more. The colors will not fade and the loudspeakers will not loose their shine.

The nOrh 4.0 uses Vifa drivers while most other loudspeakers in this price range use "no-name" drivers. The crossovers are high quality as are the terminals. The feet are made from solid stainless steel.

Introduction

I am sure that nOrh Loudspeaker creates confusion in the market. Most companies that produce loudspeakers try to fit into predefined market segments. Some try to distinguish themselves as high-end. Some of these companies use high prices as a badge of pride. Other companies use lots of marketing hype to inflate their prices. There are very few companies that are focused where nOrh is focused - value.

I believe that no matter how much or how little you have to spend on audio, you deserve respect. When I started getting interested audio, I only had to buy two speakers. As surround sound became popular, people needed twice as many speakers. When DVDs were released, people needed five speakers. Now, people need six speakers! Although I sell speakers, I pity someone trying to get into home theater today. What can someone expect to get for a modest budget of $2,000 or less? Most companies are addressing this market by producing products that are sticking very cheap drivers in plastic boxes and selling them as systems.

We have demonstrated that with the nOrh 9.0, we have produced a loudspeaker that many call the best two-way loudspeaker in the world. Many people feel that as we have been able to define the highest level of performance achieved with two drivers, we should focus pushing even higher. I feel it is more important to take the knowledge we have gained in producing our most expensive product and apply these benefits to our least expensive products. We have produced a marble version of the 4.0 to offer the level of artistic execution to a wider audience. Marble is expensive and heavy so we still wanted to bring the benefits we have gained from building the marble speakers to an even wider audience.

We embarked on a six month effort to build loudspeakers out of ceramics. We are not the first company to build loudspeakers out of marble or ceramics. We are the first company to build marble and ceramic loudspeakers and sell them at a reasonable price. While we are all proud of the nOrh 9.0, we are even more proud of the 4.0. The nOrh 9.0 uses the best drivers, crossover components and cabinets to achieve its goal. The nOrh 4.0 exceeds but it does so at a very modest price. Whether you buy marble, ceramic or wood, the nOrh 4.0 sets a standard for low-cost loudspeakers that we don't expect anyone to match.

The nOrh 4.0 simply embarrasses other low-cost loudspeakers. Some people think they are beautiful. Some people think they are radical. What is important to understand is that they look the way they do because they sound better. Box speakers can not perform as well as loudspeakers with no parallel surfaces. Whether you like the shape or not, you will have to admit, the nOrh 4.0 sounds better than any loudspeaker in its price range.
