The nOrh 4.0 is now becoming our most successful product. So much so, we are back ordered. We have increased our manufacturing capacity by a factor of three in order to keep up. We now have three cabinet shops working to keep up with demand. This is great for us and great for the people that benefit building our products.

We make less profit from the nOrh 4.0 than any of our loudspeakers. We have discovered just how difficult it is to build a low-cost/high-end product. Perhaps we have even outdone ourselves. The nOrh 4.0 actually sounds better than any of us expected it to sound.

The nOrh 4.0 has been our most complicated project. We know that many people want a small inexpensive loudspeaker. If not for their main system, for a second system, for rear speakers or even for a center channel. The problem is that designing a small speaker is not as easy as it might seem. We have worked on the nOrh 4.0 longer than any project to date. Quite simply, I was not satisfied with most of the speakers we built.

The problem is that small speakers sound compressed. There are no dynamics. Worse, the sound is "boxed-in". We would have liked to make the speaker a bit smaller. We believe, that it is nearly impossible to make a "high-end" speaker any smaller than the nOrh 4.0. Any smaller and the bass will roll off well before 100 Hz. A speaker that rolls off before 100 Hz is going to sound very thin. If you use it with a bass unit, there will be far too much directional information coming from a single speaker.

We have started showing off the nOrh 4.0 as soon as we got them out of the factory. Everyone is saying they want a pair. Most have asked us if we are playing any games (where are the other speakers? What is behind the curtain?) These speakers do just about everything right.

The nOrh 4.0 do not have deep bass but the bass they do produce is quick and authentic. I have been using the nOrh 4.0 with and without subwoofers. Without a subwoofer, the sound is quite convincing. Most satellite speakers are unable to play loud. These speakers will play loud. The woofer is rated at 110 watts. The tweeter we selected is over designed for a speaker in this price range. I am very proud of the nOrh 4.0. I don't think that there is a better sounding speaker anywhere near this price.

I believe that the nOrh 4.0 is the ideal center and rear speaker for people that have even very expensive left and right speakers. I believe it is the best speaker you send away to campus. I think it is the best speaker you can put in your office. I also believe it is the best speaker you could hook up to your computer. If you have a mini-component system, your electronics are certainly better than the speakers that came with it.

One of the problems with high-end audio has been that the entry price has been simply too high. We believe that the nOrh 4.0 makes high-end truly affordable. Most importantly, the nOrh 4.0 can grow as your taste grows. If you buy it for a small apartment and you later move to a larger house, adding a subwoofer is all you need to do to upgrade.
