| Prism Series |
Speaker designers have known for over forty years that the box is not the ideal shape for loudspeakers. The worst shape would be a cube. The reason is that all sides are equal in length and parallel. The rectangle box is slightly better because not all sides are equal in length but all sides are parallel. Parallel boxes reflect energy back and forth. The energy inside the box competes with the energy being produced outside the box. As the woofer returns backwards, it creates a reflected energy that bounces back and presses directly against the woofer. The driver literally is fighting against its own energy.
The Prism has no parallel surfaces. Each angle is less than 45 degrees. This means that energy created by the loudspeaker is compressed upon itself. All Prism loudspeakers are ported on the bottom. This couples the cabinet with the floor and increases the impact of bass.
Many customers ask me how the Prism compare against the drum series. The real question is how does the Prism series compare against floor standing boxes. The answer to that question is that the Prism does sound better. Not only does the Prism sound better, it is also finished nicer than other loudspeakers selling in its price range.
The Prism loudspeakers were designed for people who preferred a floor standing design. The Prism 6.1 and 6.6 are focused on lower powered systems. I use the Prism 6.6 in my bedroom with a small 30 watt integrated amplifier. The Prism 6.6 would be ideal for tube amplifiers or modest A/V amplifiers. The Prism 6.1s are also very efficient but less expensive than the Prism 6.6.
The Prism 6.9 is focused
on producing the absolute best bass possible without a subwoofer. The bass performance
of the Prism 6.9s is astonishing.

The prisms series are floor standing speakers that do not require any space behind them. This makes them more versatile. These speakers work as good as their wood drum counterparts, yet they offer greater efficiency and sensitivity. Prisms were designed to be ideal for AV applications, and use with tube amps (such as Decware Zen). The cabinet design ensures that there is a larger internal volume than the wood drum series, so that the bass is deeper. There are no parallel surfaces (as with the wood drums) and the cabinet material is thick. All of these qualities enhance the sound of the speakers. |
